Mary Moore Obituary

Mary Louise (Scott) Moore was born on October 7, 1948 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late James and Annie Mae Scott.  On January 8, 2021, the Lord sent an angel of death to peacefully and quietly seal her lips and called her home.  He knew that he needed one more Warrior in his Army and presented our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie and Friend with her wings and invited her to a home of everlasting peace and love.

To her friends and family, she was affectionately known as “Naddie Baby” or “Lady.

Mary was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she was educated by the Elizabeth Public School System, graduating from Battin High School.  She later attended Candace Enterprises and received a Certification in Office Automation.

Mary was employed as a keypunch operator by Bamberger’s in Newark, New Jersey for 22 ½ years.  After retiring, she briefly worked preparing food at Harry’s Kitchen in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  In later days, she spent her time caring for her grandchildren.  She loved everyone and was always faithful in her work.

Her faithfulness carried over into her church life, where she was a servant of the Lord under the leadership of Reverend Orlando T. Riley at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years, serving on the Usher Board and in various other ministries.  If you knew Mary, you knew she wore her usher uniform with pride and love.  And the type of Woman that she was, there was no better person to greet people on Sunday morning. That was her heart, warm and welcoming, which made her a perfect candidate to welcome people into the sanctuary.

Mary loved to travel – mostly to North Carolina to visit her family.  She loved being a hostess. There was never a Thanksgiving or Christmas that you would not find Mary having prepared what she would call “a little something” but was always enough to feed a whole block.  She loved feeding people, and would always extend an invitation to come and partake of a meal.  She always had a listening ear and an open door not to mention, an open heart.  But if you knew Mary, you also knew that she was no stranger to speaking her mind and letting you have it.  If “telling it like it is” was a person, it was her.  Everything she said though was always said out of love and concern.

Mary married the love of her life, the late James Earl Moore on October 10, 1977 and remained a loving and faithful partner until James’ death in 1995.  To that union, one son was born, and they gained one adopted daughter.

Mary absolutely loved her family.  Her son and daughter were her world. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they could always count on her baking her infamous “Bunny Pistachio” cake during Easter.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Moore; both her parents, James and Annie Mae Scott; Sisters, Sandra Scott and Barbara Scott; Brothers, Robert Scott, Willy Brown, James Scott, Jr, and Jameel Abdus Salam; and Grandson, EarlQuan Moore.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children Son, LaQuan Moore; Daughter, Sakinah Moore; Step-Children, Stacey Moore, Charles Tyner, and Angela Moore; 1 Sister, Edna Howard; 1 Brother, Johnnie Scott (Melissa); 8 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and 2 dear friends, Sister Patricia Maxwell and Sister Gerdie Singley.
