God called to rest a beautiful soul on March 19, 2021, Mrs. Audrey Lonjean Washington.
She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on March 1, 1939 to the late Calvin Foster and Evelyn Dennis Foster Peele.
Audrey attended the Elizabeth Public School System.
Audrey was employed by Elizabeth Housing Authority as a Resident Advocate for the Drug Elimination Program for many years. She also worked for the Board of Elections for over 30 years. On June 22, 1956 she married the love of her life, Bruce William Washington and from that union they were blessed with five daughters.
Audrey had many titles, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great Great-Grandmother, friend, Aunt. Audrey was smart, whatever you came to her with, whether if it was a math problem or how to spell a word, and she always had the answer. She was known for telling stories or telling jokes. She was famous for her mac and cheese and her delicious peach cobbler and most of all she loved to play cards and everyone knew that Audrey was a person that would help anyone if it was in her power. Audrey was an awesome person with a big heart. Another one of her passions was reading books.
Audrey is predeceased in death by her parents Evelyn Peele and Calvin Foster, stepfather William Peele and daughter Wanda Washington.
She leaves to cherish her five daughters Kim Washington Elizabeth, NJ, Evelyn McLeroy (Robert) Willingboro, NJ, Shawn Sullivan Elizabeth, NJ, Angela Washington McDowell (James) Elizabeth, NJ, Her chosen daughter Mary Mack Elizabeth, NJ, special daughter Denise Grooms Irvington, NJ, brother-in-law Bobby Washington Elizabeth, NJ, 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, god son Earl Graham Elizabeth, NJ, god-daughters Janice Knight McDuffie Rahway, NJ, Roxanna Elias Miami, FL, A very special cousin Darryl Foster Newark, NJ, Longtime friend Lorraine Howell and a host of other loving relatives and friends
