Antwoine Thompson Obituary

Our hearts were broken when we learned of the sudden death of our dear loved one, Antwoine Quadrece Thompson. He was born on October 6, 1988, to Sharon Howard and Nathaniel Thompson. He departed this life on April 26, 2021, at the young age of 32 years old.

Antwoine, affectionately known as “FONIE” to family and friends, grew up in Elizabeth, NJ, where he attended Elizabeth Public Schools. He excelled in sports, specifically football, and received many accolades and numerous awards for his accomplishments on the field.

Fonie was a gentle and very caring young man who was always there for his mother and grandmother. When his grandmother had taken ill and his mother was taking care of her, he was always there to help them both and did not hesitate to do whatever was necessary to ensure they were ok. He was the driver in the family and would run errands for them, whether it be driving his Mom to get groceries or going to the drugstore to get important medications that his grandmother needed, he was always there. His grandmother’s illness caused her to become immobile and Fonie, being the loving grandson that he was, would carry his grandmother upstairs every night to get her ready for bed and then would carry her downstairs every morning so she could eat breakfast and start her day. He had a special love for his mother and grandmother and the bond they shared together is unbreakable, even in death.

Fonie has two beautiful daughters, Nylah and Ja’syah, whom he adored. He was a wonderful and dedicated father to his girls and had recently taken them on a fun vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, to spend some quality family time with them.

He loved his brothers, Tyreek, Chris and his big brother, Nate, with whom he had an especially close relationship. His only sister, Dia, also held a special place in his heart.

Fonie had many friends, and he was well known in the community and very well-liked by everyone who knew him. His sweet and gentle spirit made him so easy to love. He will be deeply missed by all.

Fonie was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Carter, and his youngest brother, Henry Jones (Oddie).

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his parents, Sharon Howard and Nathaniel Thompson of Elizabeth, NJ; two  daughters, Nylah Thompson and Ja’syah   Cromartie, both of Elizabeth, NJ; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Howard Carter of Elizabeth, NJ; three brothers, Nathaniel Thompson of Atlanta, GA; Tyreek Thompson and Lance Green, both of Elizabeth, NJ; one sister, Dia Green, of Elizabeth, NJ; one uncle, Keith Howard; three nieces, Jadia, Nylah, and Ky’Lae; two nephews, JaQuan and Jamir; three great nephews, Rimaj, Kah’ari and Akhir; one great uncle, Charles Howard (Carlena) of Roselle, NJ; two great aunts, Jeanette Howard and Rev. Yvonne Cooper, both of Elizabeth, NJ; a very dear friend, Jacquia Reid; three especially dear friends, Devan Savage, Tyrone Cook and Tyquan Hill; a host of cousins, other relatives and many other very good friends.

Sorrowfully submitted,
